Actually the action from the tree swaying helps to promote more root growth and more root growth equals a faster growing tree.  The tree stakes should be removed after the first 6 months to possibly a year depending on where your located.  An area like a Prescott Valley is subjected to more consistent winds than the Mountain areas of Prescott.  Areas of high winds and soft wood trees like a Globe Willow may need support longer than 6 months.  Yes, I have notice in this area trees that are so large and still staked that is looks like the tree itself is supporting the stakes not only is it ugly but pointless.
