Cow’s Tongue Prickly Pear (OPUNTIA engelmannii var. linguiformis’
2 ft. long pads resemble a cow’s tongue. 6 ft. tall & up to 8 ft. wide (if uncontrolled.) Yellow flowers in late spring-early summer. The reddish-purple, pear-shaped fruit is covered in small spines. The fruit is very yummy with a fresh and tropical fruit flavor. Well worth any pain and agony one may encounter when removing the tiny spines off the fruit.
